This letter addressed to Marlow United Methodist Church was received in the mail July 27, 2009

Dear Members & Friends of the Marlow United Methodist Church,

We the people you help with your Food Pantry, want to tell everyone Thank you. It’s more than a simple Thank you, it’s more like “God Bless” each and every one of you.

Let me tell you how much your aid means to us. First of all it’s meals you can depend on, it’s a meal which otherwise would have been skipped. We also enjoy the fresh eggs, and feeding our family with proetin food. The Fresh Baked goodies are truly treats, a little sugar brings a smile to many faces. And as for the meal that comes along, is like the joy of eating out.

For the household items, truly a big help. Whether it be paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, dish soap, laundry degt, Q-tips and everything else that food stamps will not cover. (Those who are lucky enough to get food stamps)

As for food gift cards, can purchase Multi-Vitamins for the most needy children and elderly to maintane health. It also puts some meat and vegetable to the table.

Times are hard and the future looks even harder. So the gift of the Food Pantry, is a God Sent…for all of us. And pray that the spirit of the Marlow United Methodist Church, lives strong and well & forever.

In short, thank everyone for us, and know you are making a differents in many familys in town.

 GOD BLESS,
A. Friend

History:

The Methodist Church (built in 1829) was a few rods west of the Old Meeting House (built in 1792) on Marlow Hill. In 1845 the Methodist Church and the Old Meeting House were moved down to the "plains" or Village. The Methodist Church was enlarged in 1866 and the Old Meeting House eventually became Jones Hall and was remodeled in 1881. Sunday morning services used to begin at 8:45 AM.

Pastor Info:

I came to Marlow United Methodist Church as pastor just this past July, 2009. Though small in size, the church is large in spirit. The people here warmly welcome all who come into their midst, and their desire to grow in faith and in mission is strong and evident. Should you be looking for a new church home, do come join us some Sunday morning at 9:00 for worship.

Prior to coming to Marlow, I served United Methodist churches in Bow, NH and in Missoula and Billings, MT. I also work as a Spiritual Director in Concord, NH, where I make my home with my husband Steve, our two cats and one dog, and my three sons when they find their way home from college and jobs. Retreat ministry, spiritual formation and Christian education, and the church in mission in the community are some of my pastoral passions. I also love to quilt, garden, read books, hang out with my family and friends, walk, and appreciate every corner of this beautiful world that God has given us to live in.

Should you wish to contact me, the church’s e-mail is marlowumc(at)gmail.com.

May peace and blessing fill your day!

                                                           Rev. Beth Garnaas-Holmes

Announcements

Special Guests! Next Sunday, January 31, missionaries Kevin and Kathy Bruce will be with us during our worship, and will provide us a glimpse of their ministry with the Awa people. Invite your friends to come and learn. Children and youth will especially enjoy their presentation of slides and music!

HAITI RELIEF

UMCOR, our United Methodist Committee on Relief, is sending aid to Haiti to help in the relief efforts after the massive earthquake there this week. Any offerings individuals make for Haiti relief will be matched by funds from our church, so your giving will be doubly blessed!

If you would like to make a contribution, you can write a check to UMCOR, and write “Haiti Emergency Advance #418325 in the memo. If you prefer to give cash, please place your offering in the Christmas envelopes so we will know the offering is for Haiti. 100% of what you give goes to Haiti, as all of the UMCOR overhead is provided by our Mission Shares.

The church is also putting together Health Kits to be sent to Haiti. Supply lists for these kits are available on the back table. Invite your friends and neighbors to participate as well! People want to help, and this is a very concrete way they can do so. The Conference will be coordinating a joint delivery of our kits with those from other churches, so we will not need to pay postage. Do you think we could send 200 kits to Haiti, or more?

SPIRITUAL GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

Beginning on Sunday, January 31 Pastor Beth will meet after worship with any folks who are interested in becoming members of the church. The group will explore how one can grow and deepen spiritually as a member of a faith community, and we will also learn some of the history of the Methodist movement and the structure and mission of today's United Methodist Church. You need not be planning to become a full member to be part of the group, but at the end of our sessions you will have the opportunity to do so if you feel so called.

For those of you who are committed to maintaining ties with another denomination, be aware that the UMC has an Affiliate Membership so you can join this congregation, yet maintain your membership in another denomination as well.

Please let Pastor Beth know today if you will be coming, so she can have enough resources on hand next week. You can even come if you're already a member, and want a refresher course!

On the back table today, you will find a display of several spiritual growth resources. During Lent, Pastor Beth will teach a class following

our morning worship services.  Look at the books today, and indicate which kind of study is most appealing to you.  That will help decide which course will be offered.

If any of you are interested in becoming full members of the church, please talk with Pastor Beth today. A class on “Becoming a Member of a Faith Community” will begin on January 31, meeting for a few weeks following the worship service on Sundays.

Caring through Cards Ministry: If you would like a card sent to someone on behalf of the church, please let Donna Chase (446-7733) or Gary Levesque (446-4383) know. The cards are at the back of the sanctuary.

“Please bring your food contributions 3rd Sunday for the Food Pantry distribution!”

Food Pantry: Please remember our neighbors when you shop by choosing single-serving, easily prepared, diabetic-friendly meals to contribute to the food pantry. If you would like to give a financial donation for food, there is a jar on the table at the back of the sanctuary where you can put your offering. This money will be used to purchase needed items. We also welcome your help in identifying others whom we can help. Deliveries are made the third Sunday of the month. If you can help with deliveries, please contact Marcia Levesque (446-4383).
